REALLY GOOD DOGGY DAY CARE

tj and tara (and spike) have been taking care of our dogs while we've been in new jersey, and almost every day we get some sort of update or text message or photo like this:

1. office dogs

2. hanging out in uncle tj's messy area

3. dogs mellow

4. "hi mom! spike really wants to be a dog, so i'm showing him the ropes. "

5. " . . . and i wish i was swimming."

6. "hi, from spike and olive."

7. lazy days . . .

8. "slumber party at aunt tara's house. heaven."

now seriously people,
could todd and i be any luckier?
thank you SO MUCH, you guys!
xo.

NEWARK, NJ

newark, nj (which is just west of new york city) is full of brazilian markets, brazilian restaurants, and people speaking portuguese on the streets.

so when we dropped tricia off at the airport today, we went there to walk around; to shop at a brazilian market; to eat pasteis with creamy white cheese, green olives, and hearts of palm; to drink guarana, caipirinhas, and hand-squeezed lemonade; and to dine at a churrascaria (a Brazilian steakhouse) that serves the rotisserie meats rodizio-style.

FEIJOADA

today we invited a bunch of my parents' friends over to meet huck and enjoy an afternoon feast.

we served up a feijoada, which is comprised of rice, black beans, salted meats, farofa, fried manioc, collard greens, and fresh oranges, and is brazil's national dish. feijoadas are usually served midday on saturday, and our version begins with caipirinhas and ends with a brazilian flan. and then we add in maybe one more caipirinha.

EAST COAST BATH TIME

is just like west coast bath time.
except it's three hours later.

MY THUMB

it started off innocently enough, with my dad and me at the changing table.

then, while he was taking care of my business, my thumb got unusually close to my mouth.

and before i knew it - oops! - it had slipped right in. so i started sucking on it.

then, as if i had done it many times before, i curled my other fingers around my nose.

i liked this very much and decided right then and there, before my parents' very eyes, that i was grown up.

FOOD

is kind of a big deal around these parts (meaning at my parents' house). it seems that we are always either planning it, preparing it, eating it, or talking about how we ate too much of it.

here was this morning's breakfast: fresh fruit, coffee, juice, homemade english muffins (made by aunt tricia), scrambled eggs, and fried plantains.
