HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHEL!

yesterday huck and i spent the day with rachel, ruby, and zella. we ate breakfast, played in the sun room, went on a walk, picked up ruby from school, snacked on banana bread, and went to the park. oh, maternity leave, you are delicious: rachel called, i hopped in the car, and our day began.

and because we can't get enough of these girls, we are going to hang out with them again tonight so rachel and henry can go on a date for rachel's birthday. now this is the life.

p.s. notice zella's glove. the thumb is cut out because she sucks it. so cute, don't you think?

COUSINS C + E

huck has been spending a lot of time with his cousins esther and caroline lately. these have been such nice days. lazy days. days where mom and aunt taunia talk and plan and cook and shop while the kids, well, get to be kids.

except when they hold "huckleberry th-in," of course. then they are quiet, composed, and very responsible.

OLD FRIENDS

today we spent the day with some very old friends: ingrid and i went to school together from 8th-12th grade and kari and bill are great friends with my parents. one year ago, ingrid moved to portland with her husband burke and their three scrumptious kids -- abby, avery, and henry. kari and bill still live in princeton, but if we're lucky they'll head out west when my parents do (she's luring her parents with snowshoeing expeditions, the japanese garden, and underground tunnel tours, and i'm luring mine with golf courses, restaurants, and a new grandkid). either way, it was great to hang out with familiar friends all day. we just loved it.
